The National Weather Service upgraded the El Reno, Okla., tornado that hit on Friday to an EF-5 with a width of 2.6 miles, making it the widest tornado ever recorded.
The EF-5 rating is the most powerful rating that can be given to a tornado. 296 mph winds were recorded during the storm in El Reno. Friday’s tornado was double the width of a tornado that hit just more than a week earlier in Moore, Okla.
