Egypt’s president wishes journalists weren’t tried

Egypt President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said the sentences handed down to three Al Jazeera journalists had a “very negative” impact on the country’s reputation and he wished they were never put on trial.

However, in his comments to editors of Egyptian media outlets, el-Sissi stopped short of saying whether he will issue a clemency.
