Pres. Obama To Speak About Ruling 12:15PM ET

Obama Will Address The Nation After The Supreme Court Decision On Health Reform

President Barack Obama will address the nation from the White House just after the Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of health reform driven by the government.

President Barack Obama has three different speeches prepared to address the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on his signature health care law Thursday, though it wasn’t clear when exactly the president would speak the the American people following the ruling.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the speeches would address three possible outcomes: a complete strike down of the entire law; a ruling which strips out only the individual mandate, requiring Americans to purchase health insurance; and upholding the law in its entirety.

The latter version is said to be more celebratory, the paper said, quoting unnamed sources close to the White House.
While addressing the health care ruling, whatever it may be, is not currently on the president’s Thursday schedule, it’s likely he would speak the American people sooner rather than later if the court upholds the law.

Regardless of the ruling, the Journal said, the president is likely to continue to highlight popular parts of the law throughout his campaign, including provisions that require insurance companies to cover persons with preexisting conditions, and allowing parents to keep their children on their plans until age 26.

Democrats are preparing their responses too, the paper said. Republicans are likely doing the same.
