Ossie Schectman, Who Scored NBA’s First Points, Dies At 94

New York Times: Ossie Schectman, a Knicks guard and all-American at Long Island University, scored the league’s first basket on Nov. 1, 1946, at Maple Leaf Gardens.

“I scored on a two-handed underhand layup,” Schectman told Charley Rosen, the author of “The First Tip-Off” (2008), a history of the N.B.A.’s first season. The shot came a minute or so into the Knicks-Huskies game after he had cut to the basket and taken a bounce pass.
