John Oliver Wants the Worst Internet Trolls to Lobby the FCC for Net Neutrality

If you are one of the many anonymous keyboard warriors that spews ridiculous, trollish comments onto the internet on a daily basis, HBO’s John Oliver wants YOU to harass the Federal Communications Commission for net neutrality.

Oliver spent several minutes of Last Week Tonight lambasting the proposed merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, warning of monopolistic possibilities and remarked that the combination “is so egregious, activists and corporations have been forced onto the same side.”

In other words, he joked, “That’s basically Lex Luthor knocking on Superman’s apartment door and going, ‘listen, I know we have our differences, but we have got to get rid of that asshole in apart 3B. He’s too loud, Supe, he’s too loud’.”

Turning his attention on the FCC, Oliver noted that the agency will have a period of accepting open comments on its proposed changes to net neutrality. In response, he gave an open plea for the internet’s worst “monsters” (YouTube commenters, mostly) to rise up with their “badly spelled bile” to take advantage of that open comment board.

“This is the moment you were made for,” he said. “We need you to get out there and for once in your lives focus your indiscriminate rage in a useful direction. Seize your moment, my lovely trolls! Turn on caps lock and fly, my pretties.”
