7 States Hit With E. Coli Outbreak Linked To Costco Chicken Salad [VIDEO]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that 19 people across seven states have been sickened from an E. Coli contamination that officials have linked to chicken salad purchased at Costco. People who bought chicken salad at U.S. Costco stores on or before Friday were directed to throw it away. Though the strain of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can be deadly, no deaths were reported. Five people have been hospitalized and two have developed a type of kidney failure, CDC officials said. Six of those affected were in Montana, five in Utah, four in Colorado, and one each in California, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state. Reports of the illness began Oct. 6 and involve people from ages 5 to 84.
