Virginia Celebrates Veteran Day By Ending Vet HomelessnessTo mark Veterans Day, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will join President Barack Obama to announce Virginia has become the first state to end veteran homelessness. The cities of Las Vegas, and Syracuse and Schenectady, New York, will also announce they have reached the federal criteria for no veterans living on the streets, according to the White House. This summer, Connecticut also hit administration targets for reducing the chronic problem among veterans. Obama will also call on Congress to support legislation aimed at improving educational opportunities and health care for those who have serves in the military. The White House also plans to announce all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico will provide “recently transitioning veterans” and their dependents with in-state tuition at public colleges.
